Orbost Snowy Rovers’ under 15s side did their finals hopes no harm, when they broke through for their first win of the season against Lucknow in round eight of the East Junior Football Association at the Lucknow Recreation Reserve last Sunday.
The boys sung the club song with plenty of gusto after holding on for a narrow two-point win over the current fourth-ranked side.
The victory sees the Blues only four points outside the top four, still in seventh spot, though with their low percentage they are practically two games ajar.
In close competitive contest, less than 10 points separated the sides all day, with the visitors holding on to a three-point advantage at the
final change.
Both sides had their chances in a tight nail biting final term, with each team kicking a goal, but the stout Blues defence held firm, hanging on for well-deserved victory much to the delight of players, coaches and spectators.
The only multiple goal kicker for the Blues was
Charlie Joiner, with the best players being Lachlan Robinson, Jimmy Hardy, Jacque Renaut, Jack Kerslake and Emilio Williams.
In the under 13s, the Magpies were winners by five goals, kicking eight goals to one in the first half to put the match to bed early.
The Blues tried hard but found the going tough against a well-drilled opponent.
Theodore Kuyper, Harlan Smith (two goals), Sonny Marshall, Zayn Smith and Chad Russell prominent for the Orbost Snowy Rovers.
With the KIngs Birthday long weekend, followed by a bye, The Blues next home game will be on Sunday, June 21 when they play Wy Yung at Bullumwaal Road.
