Former child prodigy, international touring artist, and cancer survivor Nathan Cavaleri has announced a major national theatre tour, which includes a highly anticipated performance in Bairnsdale later this year.
His deeply personal solo show, Growing Pains – The Nathan Cavaleri Story, will take the stage at the Forge Theatre in East Gippsland on Friday, September 11.
The 14-date national tour promises a raw, funny, and ultimately uplifting blend of storytelling and live music. The production traces Cavaleri’s extraordinary life, from his early days busking in Campbelltown to the heights of global stardom, through to a severe mental health collapse, burnout, and his eventual journey toward healing and rediscovering his purpose.
By the age of 12, Cavaleri was the subject of an intense international record label bidding war between industry giants Michael Jackson, Prince, and Madonna. By 16, he had toured the world alongside blues legend B.B. King, performed at the Kennedy Centre for President Bill Clinton, and shared stages with iconic artists such as Etta James and Bonnie Raitt.
However, behind the bright spotlight lay a quieter struggle with the pressures of expectation and identity. Cavaleri noted that transitioning his life story into a theatrical format has been both a challenging and cathartic experience.
“Reliving these experiences on stage is like nothing else,” Cavaleri said.
“It’s a scary thing putting your heart out there and revisiting some of life’s most sensitive moments in front of a crowd, but when we’re all crying, laughing and blissing out together, it reminds me that beneath it all, we have so much in common.”
The extensive regional tour commenced on Saturday, June 20, at Kingston City Hall in Moorabbin, before travelling through Mildura, Swan Hill, Pakenham, St Kilda, Wonthaggi, Nunawading, Portland, Hamilton, Ararat, Warrnambool, and Taree, eventually concluding at Avoca Beach Theatre on November 28.
Organisers have indicated that further national dates will be announced in the future.
The upcoming East Gippsland performance is an all-ages event.
