Last Thursday’s social bowls kicked off on a freezing winter morning, though players were at least spared the harsh winds of previous weeks.
Thirteen rugged-up bowlers turned out for two games of 10 ends. Just as talk turned to shortening the second game to escape the cold, the clouds parted, allowing the final ends to be played under welcome sunshine.
Greg Rankin (skip), Annette Grmusa and Lyn O’Brien proved the team to beat, emerging as the only unit to win both games.
Sunday brought a complete turnaround weather-wise, delivering a warm, sunny day that attracted a strong turnout to the green. The club was also delighted to welcome new member Grant Fuller to the ranks.
The match committee set up two 10-end games of three-bowl triples. Claiming overall victory on the day was the trio of Bruce Kneebone (skip), Fuller and
Dennis McCann.
The next social bowls session takes place this Thursday. Bowlers are asked to arrive between 11.00am and 11.30am to allow time for team selection.
DRILLS & SKILLS
On a brisk morning, a smaller group of bowlers welcomed coach Ron Hatcher back into action following his recent time away. Hatcher put the squad through its paces in pairs, running a game of three-bowl triples followed by a second game of two-bowl triples.
The next Drills & Skills session will run this Saturday, starting at 10am.
