Near perfect weather conditions presented itself for Thursday’s social bowls session at the Orbost Bowling Club.
Once all players arrived, the match committee went about organising teams, with 17 players present for two games of 10 ends, with five triples and one pair.
When all games were completed, bowlers went into the club house for a cool refreshment with the discussion centred around how nice it was to be able to perform their best bowling techniques instead of having to fight the usual windy weather.
After a count back, the match committee announced that the winning team for the day was Ralph Harding, Lyn O’Brien and Ross O’Brien(skip).
Sunday’s social bowls brought a particularly good attendance, which was boosted by Phil Manning, a visitor from Bruthen.
The weather was perfect although, as usual lately, the breeze strengthened as the day progressed.
The bowlers were organised primarily into triples with one team of four to accommodate the number of bowlers.
The matches were set as two games of 10 ends, with the winners for the day after a countback Ron Hatcher (skip), Manning, Jan Lynn and Narelle Shorten.
The next social bowls will be tomorrow, August 27 and bowlers are asked to be at the club no later than 11.30am.
DRILLS and SKILLS
Saturday’s Drills and Skills returned to the north/south bowling direction in preparation for the pennant season.
The session started in perfect bowling weather, however, as the morning progressed, what was initially a slight breeze became much stronger making the bowlers concentrate much harder to try and achieve the goals set by coach, Hatcher.
The first drill consisted of two components, in one direction, the bowlers had to bowl around a marker and still come into the jack without crossing the head.
On the return end, they had to finish their bowl close to the jack inside four markers.
This first exercise was set up as a long end while the second was a repeat but set as a very short end.
The last task for the day was to knock a placed bowl away from the jack and replace it with their own.
The next Drills and Skills will on Saturday.
