It’s not every day that a casual chat over a beer in the colloquially known Bottom Pub sparks an idea for four local blokes to buy the pub, but that’s exactly what happened one night when Craig Perry, Max Herbert, Jack Welsh, and Nick Hulme caught up over a beverage.
“I think it’s almost every man’s dream to own a pub. Well, it was mine,” laughed Craig.
The four young men, who own equal shares in the Orbost Club Hotel, took over at the start of June from previous owner, Tim Behan, and are due to open under their management as of today, pending a last-minute approval after the establishment has been closed for the past two weeks for renovations.
While Craig and Nick already own their own businesses in town, Max and Jack, who are both employed locally, could not be more eager to own their own stake in the business.
“I definitely wanted to have my own business, but I certainly didn’t think it’d happen right now,” 21-year-old Max said.
