The Orbost Snowy Rovers will head to Bairnsdale this Saturday keen to claim a big scalp in reigning East Gippsland football premier, Wy Yung.
The Blues showed two weeks ago that they are more than capable of matching it with the best when they lost to ladder leader, Lucknow, in the dying moments.
Last Saturday they confirmed their form with an easy win over arch rival Lakes Entrance at Lochiel Park.
The win has seen Orbost claw its way back within four points on the ladder of fourth placed Stratford.
Orbost Snowy Rovers coach Peter Seal will be keen to see his troops continue their mid season resurgence and claim a big scalp such as Wy Yung, Boisdale Briagolong and Stratford in the coming weeks if they are to make a series play for finals action in 2024.
The Blues finished fourth on the ladder in 2023, before bowing out to Stratford in the elimination final at Bairnsdale City Oval.
With seven games remaining, Orbost will need to win probably win five matches to ensure it partakes in finals action.
To achieve this the Blues will need to score at least two wins against sides above them on the table, with Wy Yung the first chance to make inroads.
The Tigers are likely to go in with a weakened forward structure with Jack Betts (ankle) and Brad Daniel (unavailable) likely to miss.
Against the Blues will be their form on the competition’s biggest grounds and how they handle the constant attacks made by the relentless Wy Yung half back line.
It was the constant defensive and midfield pressure which caused the Blues to unravel in the second half when put to the sword by the fierce Tigers in round four at Lochiel Park.
Coach Seal and his team will no doubt put some measures in place to combat the well-drilled Tigers, but time will tell if it is sufficient to bank the four points.
