Under 13s dominate against Paynesville

4 July 2024
in Sport

A dominant victory by the Orbost Snowy Rovers under 13s highlighted the home East Gippsland Junior Football Association fixture at Lochiel Park last Sunday.
It rained goals for the under 13s, kicking 13 majors in their 25-point win over Paynesville.
Coach Tom Smith was delighted with the win and also the fact his youngsters were happy to help out Paynesville in an endeavour to even up the playing numbers.
The Blues got plenty of drive from the centre clearances and combined with great forward pressure, creating a plethora of goal scoring opportunities.
Jemma Martin started the scoreboard ticking with two majors in the first quarter, as the Blues took a three-goal lead into the first change.
Smith literally flipped the magnets at the change making the usual forwards become defenders and defenders to forwards.
Paynesville had no answers for the Blues’ bigger boys Lachy Robinson and Aiden Fulton-Hughes, as they dominated, contesting packs and breaking clear which started some really good handball chains.
Defenders-come-forwards Jimmy Hardy (four goals) and Hunter Findley kept the scoreboard ticking over, while Hunter Greaves kicked seven goals for the game, including four in the third term.
Best players for the Blues were Greaves, Jimmy Hardy, Martin, Hugh Scott, Kayden Smith and Angus Seal.
The under 11s battled hard in wet and wintery conditions against a very tall Paynesville side.
The first quarter saw a hard-fought battle with the Blues’ defence playing really well to stop Paynesville scoring goals.
Will Jenkins and Molly Hardy were superb taking some great defensive marks and clearing kicks from the packs.
Paynesville’s pressure grew as it hit the scoreboard in the second quarter.
After a few lollies at the main change, the Smith brothers – Harlan and Zane – worked in tandem to rack up possessions working the ball well around the ground.
Demi Murray and Layla Burn worked hard gaining some free kicks with their hard work and head over ball, while Joe Millward stood strong in the last quarter taking some great defensive marks on the goal line.
The under 15s had a bye and still sit outside the top four on percentage.
The Blues’ next game is an away against Wy Yung on Sunday, July 14.
