Last Tuesday morning, East Gippsland Shire Council representatives were present at East Gippsland Coffee Roasters, engaging with the local community.
This event aimed to provide an opportunity for public input into the Community Vision 2040—a strategic plan that outlines the aspirations, values and priorities of the East Gippsland community, shaping the region’s future by 2040.
The Community Vision 2040 is a collective effort, highlighting that no single entity—whether council, community, agencies, or other government levels—can achieve this vision alone.
It extends beyond the council’s jurisdiction, promoting collaboration with community members, municipal and regional partnerships and advocacy efforts.
The Vision reflects how the council will work with the community to direct resources towards achieving the desired future.
It will be periodically reviewed and updated to ensure it remains relevant to the evolving aspirations of the community.
Guiding the council’s development and implementation of strategic plans, the Community Vision 2040 is more than just a document.
It represents a collective commitment to building a future that mirrors the hopes and dreams of every East Gippsland resident.
Participation in this conversation is not just about shaping policies but also about shaping lives, livelihoods, and legacies.
In 2020/21, the community helped refresh the Vision into the new 2040 Vision, which states:
“In 2040, our people, place, environment, and economy will be connected, in balance, and resilient. Our unique and diverse communities will be accessible, inclusive, well-connected, and safe. We will value and care for each other and our natural environment. Our economy will support existing and emerging industries by being agile, innovative, and sustainable.”
The council is keen to know if this Vision still resonates with the community.
Residents are encouraged to help shape the future of East Gippsland by completing a survey, with a chance to win one of five $100 East Gippsland gift cards.
The survey can be completed online via the council website, providing an avenue for those who couldn’t attend the local session.
Additionally, photography enthusiasts can contribute to the Vision through a photo competition, capturing the essence of the four pillars: Our Community, Our Place, Our Environment, and Our Economy.
Winning photographs will feature in the final Community Vision document, and each creator will receive a $100 prize.
The competition is open to individuals over the age of 14.
By participating in these initiatives, the residents of East Gippsland can play a vital role in shaping a future that aligns with their collective aspirations, ensuring a vibrant, resilient, and inclusive community by 2040.
