Finals Hopes Dashed

Orbost Snowy Rovers remain in fifth place on the ladder in both the under 15s and 17s, unable to make the finals after mixed results in round 16 of the East Gippsland netball competition.

The Blues were out of the blocks quickly in the under 15s, producing some lovely passages of play, accurate shooting, opening up a lead of 11 goals by quarter time.

The second quarter was similar as Orbost went from strength to strength, opening up an impressive advantage of 20 by half time.

To their credit, the Seagulls stuck to task in the second half, not shirking the issue, matching the Blues with intensity, Orbost eventual winners by 21 goals.

Jaya Hough and Lani Mundy both had good games for Orbost.

In the under 17s, the Blues weren’t disgraced against minor premier, Lakes.

It was an even first quarter, the Seagulls

knowing they needed to work hard to take the win.

With Lakes leading by three early on, a couple of turnovers enabled Orbost Snowy to turn the tables and take a one-goal advantage into quarter time.

The second quarter felt a bit tense with it going goal-for-goal, but with the Seagulls starting to settle their game and converting, the top team was able to open the lead by six goals.

In the third term the Blues were able to close the lead in the beginning forcing Lakes to once again find the way to settle and play their smart game to take the lead by nine goals.

The Seagulls were able to hold onto the lead even with a few change ups in the final term, winning convincingly by 10 goals.

Jess Griebenow and Lara Seal led the way for the Blues.
