Orbost Snowy will face Wy Yung for a place in the East Gippsland “A” grade netball grand final after taking down Boisdale Briagolong by 10 goals at Bairnsdale City Oval last Sunday.
The Blues finished the home and away season fourth and went into the elimination semi final as the underdogs, only to outgun the Bombers when it counted with a strong second half the catalyst for victory.
It was a physical contest from the outset as both teams attempted to assert their authority. Boisdale got the better of the opening exchanges to open a small buffer, however the Blues edged back into the contest on the back of solid defence and strong rebounding.
The Bombers also lost momentum following some contentious umpire decision which opened the door for Orbost Snowy to take advantage.
Once a handy lead was established early in the second half the Blues rolled into the prelim and a shot at a grand final berth.
Lakes Entrance kept its “B” grade season alive with a comfortable 10-goal triumph over Lucknow while Stratford was too strong for Boisdale Briagolong in “C” grade winning by 11 goals. Both the Seagulls and Swans face Wy Yung in this week’s prelim finals.
Lakes also won its “D” grade encounter, ending Lucknow’s season with an eight-goal victory.
Wy Yung won the closest netball match of the day, over-running Lucknow in the under 17s to win by by two goals. The Tigers take on Boisdale Briagolong for a spot in the grand final.
Meanwhile in a massive boost for Paynesville, its only side competing in finals action – the under 15 netballers – were too good for Stratford winning by four goals to advance to the prelim against Lucknow.
