The Orbost Snowy Rovers’ quest for “A” grade netball premiership glory is still alive after the Blues were too good for Boisdale Briagolong in last Sunday’s East Gippsland Football Netball League elimination final at the Bairnsdale City Oval.
The Blues will play another sudden death final on Saturday at the Lindenow Recreation Reserve, doing battle with one of the form sides of 2024, Wy Yung, for a place in the senior decider.
Orbost, who finished the home and away season in fourth spot, defeated the third-ranked Bombers for the second time this season, on this occasion impressive 10-goal winners.
The Blues were happy to go in with the underdog tag and produced an outstanding second half to seal victory.
It was a physical contest from the outset as both teams attempted to assert their authority.
Boisdale got the better of the opening exchanges to open a small buffer, however the Blues edged back into the contest on the back of solid defence and strong rebounding.
The Bombers also lost momentum following some contentious umpire decisions which opened the door for Orbost Snowy to take advantage.
Once a handy lead was established early in the second half the Blues rolled into the preliminary and a shot at a grand final berth.
This week’s contest creates plenty of interest with the Tigers needing to regroup quickly, while the Blues will go in on a high after knocking off a good side in Boisdale Briagolong.
The Lucknow-Wy Yung grand final has looked to be a lock-in for months, but the Tigers were terrible last week, so the Blues will be keen to cause an upset and keep the dream alive.
