In a stellar end to the East Gippsland Football Netball League 2024 season, the Orbost Snowy Rovers’ thirds side prevailed against minor premier, Lindenow, in the grand final last Saturday at Bairnsdale City Oval.
The Orbost contingent was out in force to cheer on the young football side, and it seemed the entire population of Orbost was in the stands to cheer them on.
Lindenow went into the match as warm favourites, finishing on top of the ladder in the home and away season, while Orbost finished up in third place.
However, in classic underdog fashion, the Blues played an inspired final quarter to thwart the Cats by eight points.
Orbost Football Netball Club president, Royston Nettleton, said it was a great day for the club.
“The blue army was out in full force and felt like it was the 19th man helping our under 17.5 boys to get over line, then to see all the boys at the netball cheering on the A grade girls,” Mr Nettleton said.
“We pride ourselves on our behaviour and trying to encourage each other to be the best we can be on and off the court/field.
“The way we showed up and conducted ourselves made winning even more special, making our club great to be a part of.”
