Following the tremendous success of the inaugural Great East Rail Trail Ride event in autumn 2024, the spring edition will once again be based in the charming town of Nowa Nowa.
This year’s event, running from Thursday, October 3, to Monday, October 7, promises to be even more spectacular, with extended festivities and a jam-packed schedule that celebrates the best of the region.
Participants can look forward to a four-night adventure in Nowa Nowa, an increase from last year’s three-night stay, allowing ample time to unwind, explore and immerse themselves in the local community.
New this spring, the event will culminate with a celebratory fourth night, providing an opportunity for riders to revel in their achievements.
The Great East Rail Trail Ride kicks off on Thursday, with a bike maintenance workshop and a lively trivia night to set the tone.
On Friday, riders will be transported to Bairnsdale to embark on the scenic East Gippsland Rail Trail.
Highlights of the day include a morning tea stop at Nicholson River Winery, where participants can purchase wine to be transported back to Nowa Nowa.
The journey continues with a delightful meal at the Bruthen Inn and a unique Honey Experience at Tambo Valley Honey.
The day wraps up with an afternoon performance by the talented Georgia Angus and dinner prepared by Rinaldo from Grow Wilde.
Saturday’s adventure features a ride from Nowa Nowa to Wyanga Park Winery for lunch via the mesmerising Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail and of course riders will enjoy a mid-morning coffee treat from Flat Bickie.
After lunch returning to Nowa Nowa for a relaxing afternoon at the Nowa Nowa Makers Twilight Market.
The evening will include a presentation by Emily from Goongerah Wombat Orphanage and dinner at the newly refurbished Mingling Waters, followed by an engaging talk by Holly Baird about the intriguing Beware Reef off Cape Conran.
On the final riding day, Sunday, participants will journey from Nowa Nowa to Orbost, with a coffee stop along the way provided by Flat Bickie.
In Orbost, they will enjoy a meal at the Orbost Club Hotel and a bus tour to Dune Town, the brand new home of Sailors Grave Brewing, culminating in a visit to where the Snowy River meets the sea.
Twelve lucky riders will also have the chance to experience the highly anticipated Angus family wetlands tour.
This event is not just about cycling; it’s an immersive tour of East Gippsland, showcasing local talent, community spirit and natural beauty.
