Orbost Bowls Club opened its midweek pennant season last week with an impressive win at home against Paynesville in Gippsland Bowls Region division two action.
Kerry Edwards, Margaret Coulton, Geoff and Janice Lynn were winners 28-16, leading the way in the 69-45 victory.
They were well supported by Beryl Dyce, Des Edwards, Maurie Frank, Ron Hatcher (23-13) and Lilia Scarborough, Lynette Broerson, Gwen Hatcher and Bruce Kneebone (18-16).
Again, there was disappointment in weekend Superleague action with Orbost going down to reigning premier, Bairnsdale, 70-53, in a match that was closer than the scores indicated, both sides winning one-and-a-half ends.
Dyce, Scott Farnell, Karen Chenney and Geoff Aitken were winners for Orbost, 23-21, while Bruce Kneebone, Gwen Hatcher, Peter Coulton and Bradley Lancaster got out with a draw.
This week’s match is an away fixture against Lindenow.

BAREFOOT/TWILIGHT BOWLS
From November 1, twilight bowls will be held every Friday evening except for a short break over Christmas and the New Year.
The club will be opened at 5.30pm and people can come along at any time after that and stay for as long as they wish.
The club’s barbecue facilities will be ready for use, so why not bring along your own meal and make an evening of it.
The licenced bar and Eftpos will also be available, bowls will be provided and if required some training in basics of bowling can be arranged.
To protect the green, players are asked to wear flat soled shoes, socks or bare feet.
