The Tech Library invites students, educators and the community to its Open Day on Friday, November 8.
A hub of pioneering learning technologies and resources, the Tech Library offers a unique space designed to inspire students’ curiosity, creativity and practical skills in digital technologies.
The Tech Library is a collection of free resources that are available to teachers, community groups and Gippsland East Study Hub students to engage children, young people and adults in learning, experimenting and exploring jobs of the future. Educational resources are available off-site and on-site with The Hub room bookings and Study Hub use, and this service is offered across Wellington and East Gippsland Shires.
Visitors to the Open Day can expect a hands-on exploration of future-focused technologies. They will experience firsthand how Virtual Reality (VR) can support career exploration and work readiness through innovative tools like the Job Simulator, VIC VICE, and the Work Window:
Interview Simulator. An industry specialist will also showcase the creative potential of VR and game development applications within various sectors.
Additionally, attendees can explore original 3D models created by primary students in Augmented Reality (AR) using Class VR and Merge cubes and learn how VR platforms like Avantis World can enhance classroom engagement.
Guests will also have the opportunity to try block coding on iPads with Sphero robots and discover the creative and engineering potential of Nudel Rovers. Podcast enthusiasts can engage with RODEcaster equipment under the guidance of a media professional, while tech enthusiasts can watch the MakerBot 3D printer in action and dive into open-source coding and electronic prototyping with Arduino, supported by an expert.
The Study Hub will also be available for visitors to learn more about its services and how it can support both students and educators in their tech-related endeavours.
The Tech Library operates as a lending and resource hub, providing schools with access to emerging technologies, digital tools and expert guidance.
Its mission is to ensure equitable access to high-quality STEM learning, empowering students across the region to succeed; through its collaboration with the Study Hub and The Hub, the Tech Library makes advanced technology education accessible and engaging for all.
“The Tech Library is a game-changer for our region. At Gippsland East Local Learning and Employment Network (GELLEN), we are committed to building pathways for education, employment and innovation,” Neeta D’Souza, executive officer of GELLEN, said.
“The Tech Library empowers our community with knowledge and tools of tomorrow. It is not just a resource but a gateway to opportunity, connection and collaboration. By providing these resources to learners of all ages, we are helping bridge the digital divide and open new doors to a brighter future for our region.”
Dan Farrant, from Gippsland Tech School added: “The Tech Library is another great tool for engaging students in the region in STEM and digital literacy. It is greatly increasing the opportunities for students to learn about and develop the skills needed for an increasingly tech focused world.”
Through its partnership with the Gippsland Tech School, the Tech Library service makes advanced technology education assets accessible and engaging for all.
The Tech Library’s establishment was funded by the Raising Aspirations grant, while the Tech Library Open Day is funded by the Engage grant; both Victorian Government initiatives.
