Rain has wreaked havoc with Gippsland Bowls Region over the past seven days, but members have still taken the opportunity to play some solid ends.
In division two, midweek pennant round seven proved to be a disappointment as rain interfered and the game was declared unplayable, with the match points being distributed evenly between Orbost and Metung.
The seven points gained keeps Orbost in second place on their ladder while Metung remains on top with only two points the difference.
All weekend pennant matches across the region were cancelled due to heavy rain.
Match points have been split evenly between teams meaning that each team receives
seven points and retain their position on the ladder.
Orbost’s division one team currently holds down 11th place on the ladder, with away game against Sale 2 on the agenda for this week.
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
The final of the men’s singles championship was held last Thursday morning in hot and humid conditions, with the winner being Ron Hatcher, who defeated Greg Rankin.
SOCIAL BOWLS
Last Thursday’s afternoon’s social bowls, followed the men’s singles championship final.
Although there was a good turnout for social bowls, the humid conditions caused some team changes in the second game so winners for the afternoon were drawn from a hat, Lyn Broersen and Maurice Frank victorious.
Sunday’s session was held with a smaller group of bowlers and fortunately the humidity was lower due to a strong breeze.
The winning team was Maurice Frank (skip), Rankin, Scott Farnell and Beryl Dyce.
The next afternoon of social bowls will be this Thursday, with players to be at the club no later than 12.30pm so that the match committee has time to arrange the teams.
BAREFOOT/TWILIGHT
Twilight bowls was a quiet affair last Friday night, although those present enjoyed the music supplied by Deb Bozsan and the free sausage sizzle.
Twilight bowls is being held every Friday evening until the end of February 2025, except for a short break over Christmas and the New Year.
The club opens at 5.30pm and people
can come along at any time after that and stay for as long as they wish.
The club’s barbecue facilities will be ready for use, so why not bring along your own meal and make an evening of it.
The licensed bar and karaoke will also be available, with bowls provided and if required some training in the basics of bowling can be arranged.
To protect the green, players are asked to wear flat soled shoes, socks or bare feet.
