There were mixed emotions for the Orbost Cricket Club last week, with inclement weather causing the abandonment of all matches in the Bairnsdale Cricket Association.
Winless and currently sitting on the bottom of the “A” grade competition ladder, the Blues fancied their chances resuming last week at 0/33 in quest of Wy Yung’s week one score of 262, but it wasn’t to be.
This week they take on unbeaten ladder leader, Lindenow South Glenaladale at the Lindenow South Recreation Reserve. The Bulls have taken all before them this season and are the current premiership favourite.
The Blues will be looking for some significant performances this week from their leaders, including captain Curtley Farley, Luke Endley, Jayden Price and the Hulme brothers if they are to take the game up to their hosts.
The Bulls have numerous match winners led by co-captains Haydn Erfurth and Mel Irish, who get great support from the likes of Seth Smith, Scott Dare, Logan Dunkley and Nathan King.
In “B” grade, Orbost will be keen to get back on the field after missing consecutive matches due to heat and rain.
They will host Lucknow, while the Orbost/Bruthen under 16s take on Paynesville at AJ Freeman Reserve.
Very little separates the sides on the ladder, with the winner guaranteed to be in fourth spot at the completion of play in the one day fixture.
In the under 13s the young Blues will host Lakes Entrance White on Friday night at the Orbost Recreation Reserve.
