Orbost/Bruthen put up a good performance against ladder leader Lucknow in round seven of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) but found the batting depth of the Magpies hard to remove last Saturday at the Orbost Recreation Reserve.
Batting first the fifth-ranked Blues were delighted to post an outstanding total of 6/117 from their 25 over allotment, with a bevy of batsmen among the runs.
Ollie Hodson (28), Hayden Clarke (18), Riley Mehlert (14), Alexander Jenkins (12), Jimmy Hardy (11 not out) and Campbell Edlington (10) were all impressive with the willow.
In reply Lucknow’s batting strength was to the fore, reaching 3/161 by the drawing of stumps, with Lucas Shanahan and Mitch Farley taking a wicket each for Orbost.
The BCA junior competition now goes into recess for the school holidays, with the Blues’ next game on February 1 against Lindenow South Glenaladale at the Glenaladale Recreation Reserve.
The under 13s next match will be on January 31 against Lucknow at the Orbost Recreation Reserve.
