A disappointing loss for Orbost in Gippsland Bowls Region Midweek Pennant on Tuesday has seen them drop from second to third on the ladder.
The Green Machine went down 69-59 to Lakes Entrance 3 in the local derby at the Lakes Entrance Bowling Club.
The only winners for Orbost were Lynette Broerson, Lynette O’Brien, Bruce Kneebone and Gwen Hatcher 23-17.
With just two matches in the season remaining, Orbost will be keen to pick up valuable points against Lakes Entrance 2 (home) and Metung (away) to maintain its hold on the vital third final spot.
There was no weekend pennant last Saturday due to the Australia Day long weekend, with action returning this week with the playing of the final round, Orbost hosting an in-form Sale 1.
CHAMPIONSHIP PAIRS
The knock-out rounds for the men’s and ladies champion pairs were held last Thursday.
The successful combinations that made it through to play in the finals were Ron Hatcher/Scott Farnell and Bruce Kneebone/Trevor Hawkey in the men’s, while the ladies will see Beryl Dyce/Lynette O’Brien opposed to Karen Chenney/Robyn Kellow.
The finals will be held tomorrow at 9.45am.
AUSTRALIA DAY
There were no social bowls afternoons last week due to the championship games on Thursday and Australia Day on Sunday.
However, the Australia Day club event was well received, with a computer generated game of Russian roulette being played.
The game consisted of four matches, with two played in the morning, then a sausage sizzle lunch, and the remaining matches played in afternoon.
At the end of the game, players retired to the club house for afternoon tea and to hear the results.
The overall winners for the day, with the highest points over the four games, were Lynette O’Brien (32), Jurgen Fichtner (24) and Ross O’Brien (15).
Prizes for the first toucher in each session by skips and leads were awarded to Lilia Scarborough, Fichtner, Jenny Gurney and Greg Rankin.
The club would like to thank all the members who helped set up and run the day, as well as all those who participated, creating an enjoyable day.
BAREFOOT/TWILIGHT
Twilight bowls was a quiet event last Friday, mainly due to the long weekend, but it will be back again this week, with people welcome to come along any time after 5.30pm.
If you think you would like to try bowling, remember that twilight bowls will only run until the end of February.
