The Orbost Agricultural Society is kicking things into gear, with just over a month to go until the highly anticipated 116th Orbost Show.
The countdown is on and now is the perfect time to start preparing your entries.
A reminder to the community: the Orbost Show is run by dedicated volunteers who put in countless hours to make this event a success.
If you’re keen to lend a hand on the day, reach out to the committee – your help will be greatly appreciated.
However, if volunteering isn’t your thing, there’s still plenty of ways to get involved, starting with getting your hands on the show schedule.
The schedule is available online via the committee’s Facebook page and will soon be printed and distributed to local stores, including Snowy River Mail, F.B. Dicken and Sons, Orbost Authorised Newsagency, and Ag Warehouse.
Have a look through the schedule and consider entering – whether your garden is overflowing with produce or flowers, or you have a knack for floral art, there’s a category for you.
Budding photographers can submit their best shots, and for those with a passion for handcrafts, knitting and crochet entries are always popular.
Last year marked the final judging stint for Orbost local, Glynis White, who has dedicated more than 30 years to assessing the cake section.
In recognition of her commitment, the show schedule features a special recipe in her honour – so grab your beaters and bake a cake as a tribute to her longstanding service.
The Orbost Show pavilion is regarded as one of the best among country shows, and your participation helps keep this wonderful tradition alive.
“We’ve got a large number of market stalls in the trade space area, and I know that Landcare has strong bookings for their section as well,” show secretary, Helen Ryan said.
A recent and well-received addition to the show is the Landcare Sustainability Expo, which continues to grow in popularity.
This year’s keynote speaker is none other than Hannah Moloney, best known as the vibrant pink-haired gardening guru from Gardening Australia.
Her enthusiasm and expertise are sure to captivate audiences. The expo will also feature displays from local industries, live music, and plenty of delicious food stalls to keep everyone fuelled throughout the day.
Speaking of food, with so many options available, the toughest decision might just be what to eat.
While enjoying a bite, take a moment to wander over to the woodchop competition – a true country show tradition – or head to the fence line to catch the action in the horse arena.
The Orbost Show is a highlight of the Orbost event calendar, bringing the community together in celebration of agriculture, creativity and tradition.
Whether you’re entering a competition, lending a hand, or simply enjoying the festivities, there’s something for everyone.
So, get planning, creating and get ready for an unforgettable day at the show.
