The inclement weather that hit the region late last week prevented all four Orbost sides from taking the last weekend.
Fortunate to practically dodge the rain on week one of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association (BCA) round 12 two-day fixture, the Blues weren’t given an opportunity to chase West Bairnsdale’s score of 3/288 in “A” grade at the Orbost Recreation Reserve.
They will be keen to take the field this week when they tackle Lucknow at Hudson-Alvin Oval in a Saturday/Sunday two-day fixture.
Orbost will be keen for another win, which would see the move off the bottom of ladder, above Metung Swan Reach who play St Mary’s Nagle this week.
Lucknow will be no easy beat, the only side to bank winning points in round 12, after beating Nagle on a bowler friendly deck at Nagle College.
Magpie skipper, Jarryd Floyd has been in good form with bat and ball recently, and they continue to get solid efforts from developing youngsters like Mitchell Johnson and Taj Corben.
Rico Fourie is a danger at the top of the order, as is Blue Jayden Price, who impressed with a ton against Metung Swan Reach recently.
If Orbost can get solid contributions from Luke Endley, Tim Osborn and the Hulme brothers they are more than capable of getting the points.
Nick Davis leads a solid bowling attack, which is short on fire power but has plenty of options.
In “B” grade, Orbost will host Meerlieu at the Orbost Recreation Reserve.
The Orbost/Bruthen under 16s who are currently fifth on the ladder, outside the top four on percentage will play St Mary’s Nagle/Wy Yung at Nagle College, while the under 13s are matched against Lakes Entrance Maroon at St Brendans in Lakes on Friday night.
