The Landcare Expo will be at the Orbost Agricultural Show on Monday, March 10.
In addition to the classic show events of the pet parade, vegetables that look like people, woodchop, jams, poultry, goats, amusement rides and face painting, the Landcare Expo will also be present.
The show’s gates open at 9am and close around 2.30pm.
Grab a local beer from Sailors Grave Brewery, a coffee from East Gippsland Coffee Roasters, or a milkshake from Gippsland Jersey while enjoying pizza or curries.
Sit on the grass or in the shade tent and listen to Hannah Maloney from Gardening Australia, aka the pink-haired lady (speaking at 10.30am).
Finish the meal with chocolate from Chocky Box, ice cream from Hearty Gelati, or a scone from the Country Women’s Association.
While finishing these, you can relax and listen to a local band.
If you get bored of this entertainment, you can watch a local hand-shearing demonstration while chatting with the ladies who will be spinning and knitting the wool.
Sit down and join them to learn a new skill. You can also see a T-shirt being printed on Upcycled Tees. Bring your own T-shirt and get the Orbost show logo, or a black cockatoo printed on it.
Other stalls on the day have local products and food.
These include nuts, mushrooms, quince juice, whiskey, teas, jewellery, bath products and more.
Local community groups have their stalls snuggled among the East Gippsland Shires library, waste officers and development officers.
Join the ‘Grown, Caught, and Made’ treasure hunt and possibly win a hamper.
To enter, drop into one of the shire tents, get a list of questions and hunt down the answers. You might even get an extra prize with each question.
Landcare will also be there to give away Firewise plants and a few glossy black cockatoo plants. So please drop-in support of your local community.
It will be a great day.
