You’re invited to start thinking about your end-of-life plans, and to come and have morning tea to learn more about how you can put things in place.
Advanced care planning with Life Box is something everyone needs to consider, and it is best not to wait until a major medical event, because that medical event may be when your family and supporting medical team need to know what your wishes are.
– Do you want to be resuscitated?
– Do you want to live if you can’t feed yourself, talk with your friends or take care of your personal care?
These are the sorts of things you need to start talking to your family about and appointing a trusted person that can advocate for you if you are unable to speak for yourself.
If you haven’t had the discussion with your family or friends about what care you would like if you were to become seriously ill, then Advance Care Planning Week is the perfect time to start the conversation.
Creator of Life Box Australia, Alison Miller, has worked in the funeral industry and knows all too well the stress caused by having a death in the family but no set plans in place. Sometimes there hasn’t been a discussion about what the deceased person wanted. This can cause family arguments and guilt about choosing the right or wrong option all while having to deal with the grief of losing someone.
By having your advanced care plans in place, you will be giving those you leave behind the greatest gift. You will be allowing them to have peace in the knowledge that they carried out your wishes as best as they could. No guilt attached.
How can Life Box help you?
Having a Life Box will allow you to keep all your pre and post death documents in one place in your home.
If you call an ambulance, paramedics will be alerted by a sticker on the front entrance of your home that you have a Life Box. On the fridge you will have written on a magnet where the box is kept, and they can easily find your important documents such as your advanced care directive. Should you need to be transported to hospital, your documents can go with you.
The team at Life Box believe that no person should have to suffer at the end of their life, and that end-of-life plans should be carried out as the person had wished.
Alison is available to visit retirement villages, community centres or groups and private homes to discuss the importance of advanced care planning and why every home should have a Life Box.
Meet Alison on March 22 at 10.30am at room 13 at The Hub in Bairnsdale and enjoy morning tea while she shares with you information about advanced care planning and why having a Life Box is important. RSVP by March 20 by calling 0436 032 542.
