There’s plenty of bowling going on at the Orbost Bowling Club despite it being the off season and the weather being on the chilly side.
Considering the cold, yet sunny weather on Thursday afternoon, there was a remarkably good number of bowlers on the green.
It was decided to play one game with no set number of ends allowing the players to decide when to finish.
Once the sun went behind the clouds and the temperature dropped even further, there was general consensus that 14 ends was sufficient.
With only one point deciding the winning team, the honours for the afternoon went to Vanessa Frank (skip) and Lyn O’Brien.
As usual Sunday’s social bowls afternoon was well attended, with the teams playing three games of six ends in cool but sunny weather.
The change in format threw out a clear winner, with Geoff Lynn (skip) and Gwen Hatcher being the winning pair for the afternoon.
The next social bowls afternoon will be on Thursday and anyone wishing to play are asked to be at the club no later than 12.30pm.
DRILLS AND SKILLS
Members are definitely taking advantage of the free coaching lessons with Ron Hatcher on a Saturday morning with repeatedly larger attendance numbers than for Thursday’s social bowls afternoons.
Last week’s topics were delivering the jack correctly and teaching bowlers how to aim their feet correctly when delivering their bowl.
The next drills and skills lesson will be on Saturday, starting at 10am, weather permitting.
