The East Gippsland Hockey Association (EGHA) held its grand final day at the Gippsland Regional Sporting Complex in Sale last Saturday, with Swan Reach winning three of the five matches.

The day got underway with the under 14 finale, with Swan Reach proving too good for Mitchell River (3-1), with Hayley Morcomb picking up the player of the match award.

There was another great win for Swan Reach in the under 16 fixture, outplaying Sale (4-2) with Peyton Lugton (Swan Reach) taking the player of the match.

The best match of the day was in the under 18s, with Mitchell River beating Swan Reach 2-1 in a penalty shoot-out, Alex Wong (Swan Reach) taking out player of the match.

In the women’s finale, Sale prevailed over Maffra (3-1), with the host’s Abbie Harrington best afield.

The open men’s match was hotly contested, but it was top side, Swan Reach, who had all the answers in the second half, winning impressively 4-2 over Mitchell River.

Swan Reach’s Taj Corben was outstanding and was awarded player of the match.

The EGHA is looking for players, coaches and umpires to represent EGHA in this years Gippsland Championships to be held in Churchill on October 18-19.

The EGHA will be represented at under 12,14 and 16 level, with teams seven a side including goalies, using half ground in a round robin format.
