All Orbostians know that modest building on Browning Street, St James’ Church hall, because it’s used by so many local groups, not just the church: Anglican minister, Bevil Lunson, runs a monthly community lunch; the Girl Guides meet there; dance and yoga classes take place; the CWA meet there and many locals use the building for fellowship, education, family gathering, wakes and more.
Earlier this year the CWA Orbost team were helping to cater at an event being held at the hall and to their dismay the old oven could not keep up and their first thoughts were to find a fix.
The hunt for funding for a new oven began – and just a few days later they discovered East Gippsland Shire Council could help them.
After liaising with Bevil and his church committee, researching the best fit for their needs, and getting quotes, they did it.
CWA husbands helped with transportation and installation.
After local tradesmen connected gas and electricity, the project was complete.
