Weather permitting Orbost will return to play in round 11 of the Bairnsdale Cricket Association “A” grade competition this Saturday after being starved of opportunities over the last six weeks due to bad weather and byes.
The Blues will host Paynesville in an important match for the club, hoping to regain their early season momentum.
Orbost won its first four matches of the season, prior to going down to Wy Yung in round five.
Their round six match against Meerlieu was abandoned due to poor weather.
They enjoyed a bye in round seven, before being a bit ring rusty against ladder leader, Lindenow South Glenaladale in round eight.
Round nine was again called off due to rain and inclement weather, before sitting out the last two weeks with a bye, as the two day matches for season 2025/26 begin.
The Blues have been involved in some hit and giggle 20/20 cricket, but it lacks the cut-throat of the regular one and two
day action.
Orbost currently sit in third spot ladder, with 28 points, the same as fourth-placed Lucknow and fifth-placed Lakes Entrance, they trail the second positioned Wy Yung by six points.
They will be hoping that they can find their mojo and form quickly as they enjoy two consecutive (Saturday and Sunday) days of cricket, against a Gulls side who is full of confidence after
beating fourth side Lucknow last week.
The Gulls will be keen to get on a roll and maintain their dream of playing finals in 2025/26.
Aaron Cameron and Nathan Schoultz are the danger players for the Gulls, the Blues know if they can dismiss both cheaply it will go along way towards ensuring victory.
Orbost will be looking for big performances with the bat from import Luke Humphries, hard hitting opener, Jayden Price, skipper Curtley Farley and all rounder, Luke Endley.
Circumstances have been against the Blues, but they will be hoping that they come out focused and ready to play, because in a competitive season every point
will be crucial in the race
for finals.
