The Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ODCCI) recently wrote to the East Gippsland Shire Council, requesting that tree pruning works be scheduled for Nicholson and Lochiel Streets during the current winter or upcoming spring.
Chamber secretary Garry Squires highlighted that it has been more than six years since the major streetscape works were completed on both the east and west sides of Nicholson Street.
According to the chamber, several of the trees planted as part of that original streetscape project have now grown tall and spindly, and require professional pruning to keep them compact.
The chamber noted that a similar situation is currently developing along Lochiel Street, specifically adjacent to the Lochiel Reserve fence line.
With the cooler winter months now underway, the chamber has requested that the shire schedule these essential maintenance works prior to the spring growth season.
The ODCCI regularly collaborates with the East Gippsland Shire Council to maintain the town’s public amenities, streetscapes and local business precincts.
