The last day of term two was a big one for Newmerella Primary School student, Kortni Stedman.
A member of the school’s leadership team, Kortni had been busy in the lead up to last Friday when she shaved her long locks to raise money and awareness to find a cure for blood cancers.
Participating in the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave, by lunchtime Kortni had already raised nearly $2300 and the tally was rising. A barbecue lunch was also enjoyed by students, staff and friends with all proceeds adding up as the total raised climbed.
Lauren Brooks, of Hair Plus Salon in Lakes Entrance, had the honour of clipping Kortni’s long lengths, Kortni’s face showing a mixture of pride and shock as she felt the hair come off and inspected her new look in the mirror.
Little sister and member of the fundraising team, Indi, also had a chop. Though not as dramatic as her sister’s it was still a new look for Indi and she was happy to help raise the funds to beat cancer.
Kortni will no doubt be wearing a beanie these winter school holidays.
