100 years of flowers

1 October 2019
in Local News

It’s a big year for the St Andrew’s Uniting Church Flower Show with the annual event celebrating its 100th presentation in Orbost later this month.

With the first show staged way back in 1920, St Andrew’s Uniting Church, together with the Orbost community, is proud to present this momentous occasion.

The official opening, to be held at 11am on Friday, October 25, will be a special ceremony where primary and secondary students from the surrounding areas will combine to present instrumental and vocal items. The program will begin with Kool and the Gang’s popular song, Celebration, sung by the combined schools.

The Orbost Secondary College Concert Band will perform Waltz of the Flowers while Tiptoe Through the Tulips will be sung with ukulele accompaniment.

Orbost Secondary College director of music, Sue Taylor, is coordinating the musical entertainment. Teachers at all the local schools are to be commended as they help their students learn the songs for the program.

Also during the opening program, Heather Ewart, well known for hosting the ABC Backroads program, will officially open this special 100th flower show.

A team from the ABC will be present there is a chance Orbost could feature on the Backroads program. Heather has shown a real interest in this event and is looking forward to opening the show.

The show itself will be revealed with the opening of the doors to the halls as soon as the official opening is over when the public can observe the arrangements, cut flowers, children’s sections, art work and pot plants.

Stalls will be open, food available and there will be an historical display in the church through until 4pm.

The flower show will continue on Saturday, October 26, from 9.30am until 3pm.

This will be an event not to be missed and is assured to bring great displays and entertainment on an important occasion.
