Scarecrows and teddy bears

31 March 2020
in Local News

If you go down to the woods today… well, when walking along the streets… keep your eyes open for teddy bears in windows or on the fences.

There’s a bit of a trail popping up around town to keep young and old amused. Jill Shanahan has a beauty in her front window, rescued from the cupboard where it has been resting for many years.

Not only are there bears about, scarecrows are also popping up out of the woodwork.

Lady Scarecrow is outside the Orbost Early Learning Centre and Wild Bill Hiscock is in the paddock at the end of Lochiel Street before turning to the Princes Highway.

Pass by the Orbost Exhibition Centre and look through the glass doors where there are such surprising scarecrows to delight their audience.

Get your imagination running and make a scarecrow during this isolation period. It’s a great occupation for the children.

Put the scarecrows outside your house or down the main street as they have done in Cann River and Nowa Nowa. There are a couple of vagabond scarecrows along the Marlo-Conran Road.

Go for a drive during your isolation period and keep active spying and making scarecrows – or teddy bears.

IMAGE: Children at the After School Care Program at Orbost Primary School had fun last week creating a scarecrow for the scarecrow trail between Nowa Nowa and Mallacoota. While the Autumn Community Art Exhibition may have been postponed to a later date, it doesn’t take away the fun of spotting these quirky creations around the region as scarecrows are still being displayed, so be sure to keep an eye out. PICTURED: Coordinators of the After School Care Program, Bev Weir and Janet Munn, Emma Chapman (10), Lilly Crofts (7) and Isabella Barnes (7) with their scarecrow.
