Poker Run a success

by East Vic Media
2 March 2021
in Local News

The Orbost Poker Run attracted 139 motorcyclists on Saturday with good riding conditions for another successful charity run.
Now in its 11th year, the annual event brought in riders from New South Wales and across Victoria for the event.
Some riders had pillion passengers onboard resulting in 175 registrations for the poker hands.
Funds raised from the ride reached $24,440 yesterday, all to be distributed to Ronald McDonald House Monash, including $5100 from a charity auction at the Orbost Club Hotel on the Saturday evening. There were five stops on the poker run, starting at McDonalds Bairnsdale car park where the convoy then headed to Lake Tyers Beach, Marlo and Bemm River before finishing up at the Orbost Club Hotel where an entertaining night was held with live entertainment from The Electric Empire. Every stop was an opportunity to cut a deck.
Participants ended up with five cards at the conclusion of the ride with the best hand the winner.
“We seemed to have a lot more participants we hadn’t seen before which was great,” poker run committee member, Kevin Goudge, told the Snowy River Mail.
Mr Goudge said while the ride consisted of mostly men, there was also a smattering of women of bikes.
“We also had a few couples riding together,” Mr Goudge said.
“The number of participants is on par with the average over the years, and apart from two accidents, the day was really successful.”
The cumulative tally the run has raised since its inception is now close to $300,000.
