On Sunday afternoon, a small but dedicated group of individuals decorated the large pine Christmas tree on the corner of Nicholson and Tarra Street to get into the Christmas spirit.
The tree has stood for more than 30 years after Tom and Jill Shanahan donated it to the current site. Initially the tree was decorated by Tom Shanahan along with the Orbost Garden Club and Orbost Lions Club members, using fishing poles and ladders.
However, as members became older, they were physically unable to decorate the tree.
In 2016, a group of individuals led by members of the Orbost and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ODCCI) decided to bring the tree back to life again and decorate it.
Over time, many volunteers, including Darren Downey, who provides the crane to lift decorations to the top and electrician, Ben Pyatt have donated hundreds of hours to ensure the tree continues to be decorated each year with ornaments and solar lights for the community to enjoy.
