Despite warmer than usual conditions, the spirit of remembrance burned brightly at the Orbost Cenotaph as the community came together to honour the legacy of the ANZACs.
In a series of three poignant services throughout the day, residents and visitors gathered to pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our great nation.
The day commenced with a solemn dawn service, where a large crowd assembled under the gentle hues of the rising sun.
Led by Sandra Porteous, president of the Orbost RSL Sub-Branch, the service set the tone for a day of reflection and commemoration following on from the click clack of horse’s hooves that could be heard walking along Nicholson Street as the Gippsland 13th Lighthorse Ceremonial Troop opened the service.
Rex Solomon played a crucial role in all three services, underscoring the importance of acknowledging the traditional custodians of the lands and waters on which the gatherings took place.
