Finals fever has arrived, with the East Gippsland Football Netball League finals commencing this weekend at Bairnsdale City Oval.
Orbost Snowy Rovers will be represented by the “A” grade netball side and thirds football team.
Both will be in action on Sunday in cut-throat elimination finals, where there are no second chances, win and you progress, lose and the season is cooked for another 12 months.
The “A” grade netball side coached by Hayley Boxall will go into their clash against Boisdale Boisdale with plenty of confidence, despite being eclipsed by premiership favourite, Lucknow at Lochiel Park.
Boxall and the coaching panel will be keen to install the belief in the Orbost girls which saw them easily account for the Bombers in the round 13 clash at Lochiel Park, when the Blues put up probably the best performance of the season when 50-38 winners.
If they can match the intensity that day and minimise the errors, they could well be preliminary final bound.
The thirds will have different memories of that day, when they were beaten by their elimination final opponent, also the Bombers by 13 points, a defeat that ultimately cost them the coveted double chance.
Around the periphery of the top two for most of the season, the Blues finished shy of second spot by two points.
They had a chance for redemption late in the season, when they played Lakes Entrance, but went down by 24 points at the Lakeside Oval.
The young Blues will be keen to right the wrong and keep the season alive, to do this they will need to use the ball better than they did in round 13, where they carelessly bombed the ball into the forward 50, outplayed by the hard running Boisdale combination, who went forward with precision an purpose.
If the Blues quality players like Jacob Farley, Bobby Bills, Brayden Fenner and the miraculous Kruze Farley come ready to play, Orbost Snowy Rovers premiership dream for 2024 will still be alive.
