Countdown on for Fling

by Snowy River Mail
24 July 2019
in Local News

Last year’s Flamingo Fling High Tea was a huge success. Now it’s time to get this year’s event jumping with even more funds to be raised for local cancer survivors and many others in the community.

The Snowy Flamingos Cancer Support Group members and other generous community groups, businesses and individuals participated and contributed to the 2018 Flamingo Fling, funds from which paid for a pamper day for local ladies affected by cancer with the remainder donated to Orbost Regional Health for improvements to Room 7 in the hospital section.

Room 7 is used for patients with various needs, including maternity and palliative patients. Improvements that have been made thanks to the Fling funds have included a sliding door onto a small patio section that enables patients to sit outside in a private garden, with room for family to sit and have a cup of tea with their loved ones.

With these works completed, local patients and their families are benefitting when they come to the hospital for specialised care.

This year’s Flamingo Fling will take place at the Orbost Golf Club on Wednesday, August 21. It will include a high tea, a fashion parade and a monster auction.

Once again the funds raised will pay for the annual pamper day with remaining funds to be donated to Orbost Regional Health for further improvements to Room 7 at the hospital.

The intention of the Flamingo Fling is to promote local businesses and to keep the raised funds in Orbost to benefit individuals and their families during the most difficult times of their lives.

If you would like to support the 2019 Flamingo Fling High Tea, tickets are available at the Snowy River Mail office.
