Orbost Snowy blew a golden opportunity in the reserves as Lakes Entrance recorded a dramatic come-from-behind victory during round 10 of the East Gippsland Football Netball League.
Orbost led by nine points with less than five minutes to play, but two late goals in a low-scoring game was enough to see the Seagulls home.
The hero was Seagull Will Forrester who slotted a classy left goal after a quiet day to put his side in front with a minute remaining in a match that seesawed for most of the afternoon.
Kyle Derbyshire slotted two goals for the shattered Blues, with Jason Eaton, Todd Griebenow, Tim Findley, Jimy Derbyshire, Andrew Kenny and Kyle Derbyshire all named in the best.
In a much-hyped thirds encounter the second-placed Blues gave the third-ranked Seagulls a football lesson, saluting by 29 points and all but confirming that they will occupy the vital double chance spot at season’s end.
A seven-goal to one blitz by the Blues in the first half set up the victory, way-ward kicking in the second half preventing the Seagulls from getting closer than around five goals at any stage.
Kruze Farley, Brayden Fenner and Hugh Barnes all kicked two goals for Orbost, with Fletcher Kleinitz, Andrew Robinson, Hugh Barnes, Jacob Farley, Will Farley and Jack Barnes all featuring in the best.
