The Orbost Poker Run is on again this weekend, and after two years of tough times, from natural disasters to a pandemic, excitement is building for an almost normal event.
The Poker Run was established in 2010 through Kim and Dave Hibberson’s wish to give something back to Ronald McDonald House Monash after their daughter, Mackenzie Grace’s visits to the hospital.
A small group of motorcycle enthusiasts came up with the idea of a poker run and the first event was ran that year, where riders travel along the countryside and collect their poker hand at the designated card stops.
Since then, the committee and the support that has followed has been able to raise more than $300,000 for the charity and firmly placed the event as one of the towns most significant attractions on the calendar, with riders coming from near and far to participate.
Orbost Club Hotel publican, Tim Behan, is “absolutely thrilled to be able to hold the Poker Run in almost normal conditions, which is a welcome change after the last couple of years that the hospitality industry has endured”.
